Initially given as a sermon at Chinatown Church of Christ
Scripture: Luke 23:32-43
This is a great Easter or pre-Easter message for both Christians and non-Christians. Depending on the audience, one can emphasize the portion targeted at either group.
There were four people who died on Good Friday — Judas who betrayed Jesus, the two criminals who were crucified along with Jesus, and Jesus. They represent the four paths human beings can take with respect to our eternal destiny. Then there’s one person who should have died but didn’t — Barabbas. He is the person we should all hope to be.
Interestingly, the name “Barabbas” should mean “Son of Father” in Hebrew. We are all children of our fathers so that name is a representation of all people. And we are all children of God the Heavenly Father. Let’s hope all people can come back to God and become His children.
